Happy Sunday everyone! Today I ran my second Falmouth Road Race. I want to say that I'm happy with my time, but if I say that, then I am lying to you. I am disappointed. I know I am way to hard on myself sometimes, but it just really bothers me when I do not do as well as I wanted. I ran the Falmouth Road Race, which is 7 miles, in 59 minutes. Now, I know this is a good time. It's an 8:29 pace on a course with little shade and hills. However, last year I ran this race in 51 minutes. The heat definitely played a role in my struggle of a race today, and I know that the heat can make you run over a minute slower per mile, and that definitely happened to me today! The race was supposed to start up at 9:00, but we were still waiting at 9:15 to get going. We were literally crammed into the starting area like sardines, with sun beaming down on our faces. It was probably 80 degrees, but felt like 95 with the amount of people and sun just pelting down on us. I was parched by the time the race started, and there wasn't a water stop until mile 2, so I felt pretty dehydrated from the start. Overall, the race course is beautiful, the crowd support is wonderful, and I finished without collapsing (like a lot of people). I have another mug to add to the collection and another bib to hang on the wall! I am trying to just put this race behind me and enjoy the fact that I ran a race with thousands of other people who enjoy running and the happiness it provides them!
I will be back in Falmouth next year running a sub-50 7 miler! You just watch! This year has been about building up the mileage and not so much the speed, but I definitely wanted to get back to the speed after my marathon! My goal is a sub 1:35 half marathon in January (St. Pete Beach Classic), and some sub 45 minute 10Ks! I also want to run some 5Ks because they are such a fun distance! I have a lot of goals up my sleeve, and this girl is not resting anytime soon! I have a long road ahead of me, and I ain't slowin' down!
Have a wonderful Sunday night people! See you tomorrow :)
