Today I had yet another tempo run on the marathon training schedule. This was the same as last week, with a 1 mile warmup, 8 miles at marathon goal pace, and a 1 mile cool down. I am always so nervous for my tempo runs, especially when it's really warm. Luckily, today was another cool morning, and I felt GREAT until I started to fade in the last couple of miles. I maintained my pace but I was tired at that point!
The splits went as follows:
1 mile warmup- 8:41
Mile 2- 8:01
Mile 3- 7:55
Mile 4- 7:55
Mile 5- 7:59
Mile 6- 7:58
Mile 7- 7:57
Mile 8- 7:59
Mile 9- 8:03
1 mile cool down, mile 10- 8:87
= 10 miles total at 8:07 average pace

After my tempo run, I did 5 long, steep hill sprints to incorporate some incline running, which I've been trying to do more.

My mom, sisters, and I went out to dinner last night. We ate at Skip Jack's, which has a lot of seafood options and also things like sushi and raw oysters.
We started off with some raw oysters and clams casino.
For my main meal, I got blackened salmon, brown rice, and garlicky green beans... It was SO good!
We then walked over to Godiva Chocolatier after dinner and picked out some truffles. I had a chocolate lava truffle for dessert...Yum

Throwback Thursday
This Sunday I am running my second Falmouth Road Race. A year ago, I ran my first. That is officially where I fell in love with running! I ran that race (7.1 miles) in 51 minutes. I have no goals going into my race Sunday except to have fun and do my best! It's supposed to be hot and humid, so I'm just going with my body. Also, I haven't been focusing on my short race speeds because I have really been focusing in on my marathon speed, which is obviously completely different. I tend to push myself too hard during races sometimes and come out with really sore and nagging muscles, and I don't want that because I have to keep going with my marathon training. In honor of TBT, I have to thank the Falmouth Road Race for sparking my love of running, and for how far I have gotten today. A lot has changed in a year, and I couldn't be happier with where I am today!!
Since I have my race Sunday, I am planning on doing my 10 mile run tomorrow and I'm taking Saturday off as my rest day. Friday is usually my rest day, but I want to make sure I have fresh legs for my race Sunday!
Questions to ponder:
Do you struggle with tempo runs? What race made you fall in love with running? Do you take a day off from running the day before a race?
Happpppppyyyyyyy Friday EVE!
