Hey everyone, how are you doing?! This morning was an easy 8 miles on the training plan. Easy? Not so much! It was super hot and humid and I was just lagging from yesterday's speed work. I soon realized that once I started, I needed to take it nice and slow. Even running slowly had me feeling real tired, but I knew that I needed to fight through the fatigue and finish the run. I just pushed my tiredness into the back of my mind and fought hard to finish. Once I finished, I felt great and relieved that it was over.
After my run, I did a brief strength training workout:
10 jump squats
20 high knees
10 jump lunges
20 butt kicks
10 spidermen
20 jumping jacks
10 toe touch abs
X2 for time
Simple and quick, but effective!

Yesterday for dinner I had vegetable soup over couscous, fresh garden tomato and cucumber, and a nice whole wheat roll.
Randomness: The dog likes to lay in the warm laundry. (Even when it's 95 degrees outside.)
Larry and Lenny Review
Ok, so being a runner makes me hungry. Runners, you know what I mean? I constantly crave healthy and fulfilling foods, however; there is that occasion that I just want a nice chocolate chip cookie, brownie, cake, or some ice cream. I like to avoid giving into my temptations for the most part, so I find healthier versions of food to consume that will keep me satisfied longer. I am always stumbling across different foods at the store, and I like to try them, some are good, some are bad, some are so-so.While I was at Walmart this week shopping for home goods, I came across Larry and Lenny's protein cookies and brownies. Obviously there are healthier things to eat then packaged foods, but these are definitely healthier than an actual cookie and brownie. There is a lot less sugar, a good amount of fiber, there's no sugar alcohol, and nothing artificial. The serving size is 2 per package, so you really have to be careful not to eat the whole package, or you'll be consuming upwards of 400 calories. I find that a small bite here and there satisfies my cravings. I like both the brownie and chocolate chip cookie very much. The cookie also comes in many flavors, including peanut butter, oatmeal raisin, double chocolate, etc...
Overall: I would recommend these to eat when craving something or if you're really hungry and need something filling to hold you over until another meal. They are chewy and tasty and a great source of protein. Runners tend to neglect the consumption of protein, so this may actually be helpful to a runner!
Just to clarify: Eating whole, unprocessed food is always a better choice, but eating something like this on occasion is not bad and can be a good part of nutrition if low on protein or wanting something sweet without all the artificial flavors and sugar!
Questions to ponder:
Do your easy runs ever feel harder than your "hard" runs? Does your dog do anything silly? What is your favorite type of protein bar or snack?
